VOLUNTEERING OPPORTUNITY AT BUILD ME
BUILD ME is a Ugandan National Development Organisation founded in 2011. Our main Head office is located at Kireka-Namugongo road, Ebenezar House in Wakiso. We envision a society in which CHILDREN, youth and care givers sustainably realize their full social, economic and civic potential. Education is one of our strategic program areas.
We are current implementing two projects in districts of Busoga (Bugiri, Muyuge, Luuka, Namayingo, Bugwere, Iganga, Kamuli, Namutumba, Kaliro, Buyende and Jinja); 1) Addressing issues of school dropout, teenage pregnancy and child marriage; and 2) Improving nutrition of under-five children and expectant mothers through provision of micronutrients.
We are now seeking to recruit volunteers to strengthen our operations in different locations of our operation. At the same time this is aimed at giving fresh graduates opportunity to obtain field experience.
Position: Volunteers
Location: Various locations in Busoga Sub-region
Reporting to: Volunteer Coordinator
Period: 1 Year
Roles and responsibilities
A: Adolescent Girl Education
- Participate in training on the on-going project(s) in his/her location
- Conduct home visits to support parent to provide supportive leaning environment at home
- Identify child mothers and support them to be re-enrolled in school
- Coordinate vocational training program of child mothers who are unable to be re-enrolled in formal education.
- Collect data from households, schools and community
- Form and train Learners’ Clubs in Schools
- Conduct support supervision to Learners’ Clubs
- Write monthly activity reports
- Follow-up cases of children who have dropped out of school
- Form, train and conduct support supervision to Child Mother’s Associations
- Form, train and conduct support supervision to Parent-Child Education Associations
- Conduct go-back to school campaigns
- Participate in review meetings
B: Micronutrient distribution for children under-five years and pregnant mothers
- Coordinate with health facility to ensure safe custody of micronutrient commodities
- Mobilize beneficiaries of micronutrients
- Coordinate distribution of micronutrients
- Write reports on monthly reports on distribution of micronutrients
Skills required
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Strong communication including ability to communicate in local language
- Community mobilization skills
- Basic computer skills
Qualification
- Minimum of a diploma in Social Work and Social Administration from a recognized institution
- Must be staying in the location applied for
- Knowledge of local language is a Must
